Recently, SQ Healtang, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jinan SQ Group (stock code: 605589), has successfully put into operation its annual production capacity of 15,000 tons of xylitol project, further improving the company's functional sugar industry chain. This marks the addition of a new member to SQ Group's biomass product sequence!
SQ Healtang is one of the important domestic producers of functional sugar. As early as 2009, SQ Healtang established Shandong Sugar Science Research Institute. SQ Healtang has cooperated with Jiangnan University, Shandong University, Sichuan University, and other famous institutions to carry out functional research and commercial application development of sugar alcohol products. The leading products D-xylose and L-arabinose sell well at home and abroad and are recognized by corporate customers and mass consumers.
This project fully relies on the advantages of the whole industrial chain of biomass of SQ Group to produce food-grade D-xylose by using the hemicellulose component in plant straw and further produce food-grade xylitol. The project not only extends the industrial chain but also adds xylitol and its derivatives as new products. The project is built in strict accordance with GMP standards and relevant specifications and adopts a fully automatic packaging line with high production efficiency and safety and hygiene. It covers three kinds of products with different granularity specifications from 10-250 mesh and can do customized production according to customers' needs, and the products reach export grade standards.
As one of the mainstream functional sugar alcohol products in the market, xylitol has been widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries because of its excellent characteristics. It is used in the production of chewing gum, dairy products, beverages, ice cream, and other popular foods to replace sucrose or other sweeteners, which not only can quickly provide sweetness and coolness but also has the effect of preventing dental caries. At the same time, xylitol is an ideal sweetener substitute for diabetic patients because its metabolism is not dependent on insulin.
With the emphasis on healthy living, the overall functional sugar alcohol industry in China has maintained a good growth trend in recent years. According to the China Starch Industry Association, it has reached 1.37 million tons in 2020. According to statistics from international authorities, the global xylitol market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of about 5.60% from 2018 to 2023, and the global xylitol market size will reach $1.1 billion in 2023.
